Quantum of Solace Movie Review

Main Point: "Quantum of Solace" the strike in a miss Daniel Craig's unique take on James Bond from The last James Bond film Casino Royale, having a film that spends a portion of its time basically trying to answer those unanswered questions in Casino Royale while still firing off explosive, but ultimately melodramatic action scenes.

The Positives: When Daniel Craig decided to take on the role of James Bond, he created a very unique and different, but still and more modern and charming type of James Bond which I believe separated him from all the previous James Bond characters. This provided a much needed boost to the franchise, and combined with a strong story and character exploration, Casino Royale proved to be one of the best Bond films ever. With "Quantum of Solace", the grittier, tougher and less-gadgety take on the Bond universe has been thankfully continued, and for the most part, has been ratcheted up in intensity. Daniel Craig is one tough guy in this outing, playing a Bond that is driven even further by rage and revenge, but who also does not have everything go his way or everyone bowing to his whim.

Daniel Craig is once again great as Bond, feeling his role as a revenge sought killer set on the showing those who hurt him. Olga Kurlyenko, who fills the role of the new Bond girl Camille, manages to fill her role of being the cute yet still tough girl, playing a complicated character. Mathieu Amalric plays the Main antagonist Dominic Greene with a quiet, nasty intensity, without any strong physical characteristics, but yet still hold some psychotic mental view(which all the movies show). Judi Dench is still as great as ever as Bonds boss, and the development of they're not so quiet lovey-dovey relationship makes for an interesting twist to the film. this film is a lot more brutal in my opinion than its predecessor, and for the first time it shows that it is possible for them to make a sequel to a Bond movie rather than just having new sets of interests in each movie for Bond.

The Not So Positives: It was never fair to expect this film to live up to his status as a Casino Royale due to it being his sequel and we all know sequels are never as good as the original, but seeing how this film did have a $200 million Dollar budget and the exact same writing/producing staff as the first film, this film should have and could have been much better. What made Casino Royale so good was its focus on story and character development. We witnessed Daniel Craig's new take on Bond and watched as he fulfilled and passed our expectations on the film. None of that is done justice in "Quantum of Solace". Daniel Craig is excellent as Bond, but the script and direction does not give him the opportunity to show in Explore his Bond, leaving us with a bland look of the character after Quantum of Solace. If anything, the only thing that made this film as watchable as it was was the presence of Daniel Craig as Bond, otherwise it might as well of been Jason Bourne running around in the nonstop action scenes. Who would have been able to tell the difference?

The film lacked the moments and opportunity were Daniel Craig got to show his take on the new Bond, although there were a few they were very minuscule and brief. The lack of a strong story is another major problem. In the end all this film really accomplished was tying up a few loose ends from its predecessor Casino Royale. It builds up the new villain group who are known by the name "Quantum", but aside from that, the rest of the film is just action scene after action scene as Bond kills all the bad guys. The experience of watching "Quantum of Solace" made me feel as if I was watching a straight to TV Steven Seagal movie by the time the end credits rolled, leaving a film that does not quite even reached the halfway mark of what its predecessor Casino Royale delivered.

RATING: 6/10
